Wisconsin's Judicial Branch.
The Wisconsin court system is a three-tier hierarchy: circuit courts at the trial level, the Court of Appeals in four districts, and the Wisconsin Supreme Court as the court of last resort.
Court of Last Resort.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court is a seven-justice bench that selects its own docket. Its opinions establish binding statewide precedent.
The Intermediate Court.
Sixteen judges across four districts resolve the appeals that never reach the Supreme Court. Published opinions bind the entire state until the Supreme Court overrules them.
